As an outsider I think of Google as having top notch code but then I see stuff like this. One of their Android app's MainActivity class has over 7k lines. To those at Google - or any company for that matter - how would you say the code quality is on your team's projects versus where you worked previously? I know this is subjective but just wanting to hear some thoughts. I once interned at a smaller tech company where there was zero code review. They also used an older VCS without branching. The code was pretty messy. I know now that I never want to work in an environment like that where people get to commit whatever code they want, without anyone reviewing it or enforcing any standard/style.
Google's code quality in general is really good. It has nothing to do with much of what Android is. I work on Android the platform, the code has been messy usually due to under staffed teams but it is getting better. App development on Android usually sucks because of low awareness and cross platform issues. So not unusual to see big complicated chunks of code full of hacks.
Lol, Google does have code reviews, so don’t worry...
Still better than FB.
It's called tech debt and everyone has it as a result of GIFD craziness. Everyone knows the early code is shit, but they also know it works and refactoring always takes a back seat to feature dev. The only way it gets fixed is to be faster with your sprint work to make room for freetime refactoring.
Like any company some of the code is good some is crap. Some good devs, some bad devs. It’s weird how some people fetishize a company.
The code quality standards for my team are incredibly high. I think people complain things are too strict rather than being not high quality enough.
Which app?
New infra code is incredibly good. I’ve never seen better. But seen some of our ui code and let me tell you. It wasn’t... great.
This is expected when you only hire leetcode monkeys who don’t give a rat’s ass about code quality.

I don’t see posts from companies I have never heard of before.
