https://news.bitcoin.com/crypto-exchange-giant-coinbase-to-sell-shares-privately-ahead-of-public-offering/ I’m assuming this is for gauging how much public is willing to pay so they can price their shares accordingly Million dollar question (literally): I have an offer and might join soon - does this guarantee that I won’t get pre IPO price for my stock grant? UPDATE: https://twitter.com/fintechfrank/status/1354562917744713734 Looks like private market exposure made the stock soar 6-7x. Almost confirms that new joiners before IPO will not get a good stock price? #Coinbase #ipo
Honestly EXTREMELY unlikely to get shares at the 8bil eval at this point, especially with this announcement, might get something higher thats still lower than IPO price tho
I’d be okay with a slightly higher valuation price too lol. Any chance you’ve gotten an email about current private price?
Really depends on how the company sets the price. I know people who joined DoorDash and Airbnb literally a couple of days before IPO, and still got the pre-ipo price. Don’t really know how things work, maybe check if DoorDash and Airbnb were trading on secondary market before IPO?
To those saying that getting pre-IPO grant/price at this point is still a possibility, what's your reasoning?
What's your reasoning that you won't get pre-IPO price?
It is likely that the current private market price is driven up by what institutions are willing to pay... ...Which would bring it close to the actual ipo price where the willingness of buyers determines the price.
is there any difference joining before 2/3 and after 2/3
Do you have an option?
yeah...if i dont give 14 days notice but 7 days.
How is the initial RSU grant calculated? I have an interview coming up so likely would join after IPO, but what's a typical grant for IC5?
IPO won’t be that fast, heard from friends it will be after March most likely
Friends at Coinbase?
Bumping because of IPO update
Now that they went with direct listing, the private secondary market makes more sense as means of price exploration rather than providing opportunities of liquidation.
Do you think the price on private markets right now is the MINIMUM they’d grant to all new joiners before the IPO?
Join us if you believe in our mission. For sure you will get x times your grant at IPO. Nobody knows what that x is.
I think it’s because there is more demand for their stock from investors than shares available. They likely aren’t going to dilute shares in between funding rounds. This lets the board and employees sell their shares and get paid before IPO and let’s more investors get their feet wet in the company. Also, it will likely drive the share price up when you see people compete for it. Source: we are doing something similar at StockX and engineers are about to get paid, albeit not as big as coinbase
How can I see the price on private market? I was supposed to join next month but I’ll probably get really high price at this point
Can’t you ask them?
