I'm just venting. Because I have to. End of last year I decided to change jobs so I decided to start replying to recruiters on LinkedIn. I did little to no LC in preparation so I know this is all on me. Still, it takes a toll. I still feel like I'm an impostor and a failure sometimes. Anyway, I decided to make a list of my failures just because. Didn't get past the recruiter conversation: - Slack* - Github* - SurveyMonkey Failed at the Online Assessment: - Amazon Failed at the Phone Screen: - Facebook - Square* - Salesforce* (interviewed with 2 teams: the first one decide to go with an internal candidate and the second decided the role couldn't be remote anymore. No other team was interested after that) - Netflix - Pandora (phone screen) Failed at the Onsite: - Amazon - Glassdoor* - Microsoft* - eBay - Jitterbit I had one offer: - BlackRock (declined) * Positions I applied for. Lesson learned: grind LC. A lot. All questions I got were LC easy and medium. If I had prepared better this post could have been different. Also, make sure you prepare yourself mentally for the interviews so you can remain calm. My phone screen with Netflix was ridiculously easy but I still managed to a catastrophic screw up because I got into the call nervous and expecting to fail because of maybe an LC hard; I did fail, likely as a consequence of that. And failing because you got an easy problem wrong does mess you up mentally. So, there you go. 13 failures between October/2020 and June/2021. Now I'll take it serious and grind freaking LC. F*&! this Sh#!. I am starting to regret declining the BlackRock offer. TC: 137.5K (no bonus, no RSU)
Don’t worry !! Prepare like this is your last chance and give your shot!! It’s very positive and good to see that you realized now. Failures happens, no one can get though the best phase without failures ! So you will be getting into good job in coming days !! All the very next !! Rock !! Just prepare hard and give your Shot !! 🍻
Impressive you got all those interviews and got so far with minimal prep! You’re close. Keep it up and it will happen!
BlackRock offer TC?
148k base 15k sign-on 50k RSU vesting in 2 years (part of sign-on) 23k bonus (target, the amount is not fixed) Atlanta office.
Sounds okayish, mind sharing why you decline it ?
Same man, and I know what behavioral I’m doing horribly and keep wording stuff differently but it’s not working :(
One thing that helped me with that was to prepare some stuff beforehand. I found something called "preparation grid" where you basically list projects/situations and fill the columns like challenges, mistakes, good, etc. (or maybe the STAR stuff). Every time I was asked something that wasn't on my list I would add it. The advantage of doing this in advance is that you can write and rewrite until you make it concise.
This sound like a nice tip thank you very much , just FYI I’ve failed Twitter,MS,Airbnb, DoorDash , Lyft and salesforce
How was the interview with jitterbit? What's their process? Any tips ?
Process was average in difficulty and the problems were very nice to solve as they were more like day to day stuff rather than generic algorithms. Process was standard: technical screen followed by virtual on-site with 4 45minutes long interviews. The only tip, besides the usual preparation for any interview, is that I had one interview that was very heavy on SQL.
Thank you op.
You can’t appreciate victory without losses. Stay focused and once you get that fuck-you-money offer it will feel ten times better.
