I have the same commute and after many different tries, 26 seems the best since it pops you out on Market street 4 blocks from the office.
Drive into and out of downtown during rush hour has significantly worsened in Portland in the past couple of years
Yeah currently m driving everyday on 26 which seems to be best cos of less traffic though due to holiday season . It doesnt take more than 15 min one way now a days , not sure though in coming month post new year . Commuting via train takes about 1 hr min one way cos of train station proximity from bethany which i personally dnt like. Bt it defi saves hassle and money ofcourse vs paying for parking in downtown everyday.
Try driving to the nearest max station and taking the train from there

Interested to hear what other folks say. I would think the best route would be through Forest Park, at least that's where Waze takes me when I make this journey after work during rush hour. It has its drawbacks too, though. Pretty foggy in winter, can get backed up easily, and it's pretty rough trying to go around bikers as well. Still likely faster than Hwy 26 during heavy traffic, though. Another option I like to take is to drive to the Sunset Transit Center, park my car, and take the Max in. Pros are not having to park while downtown or deal with traffic downtown, but I'm not sure what the availability is of parking during morning commutes. I typically do this after work and have no problems finding a parking spot in the garage.
