Have stayed in Google almost 4 yrs. I will have a comp cliff in July this year. I have hesitated to interview other companies or stayed another 1.5 yrs (I guess) for Google T5 title. Status in current team: - Not a TL yet. - Ratings as T4 were: CME, CME, (EE, I expect what I will get this time). I guess I will get another 2+ EEs until get a SEE and promote to T5. What is your suggestion for pursuing a long-term growth on comp (major) and career (minor)? Wait until T5 or interview now? Rationale is welcomed in comment. Total comp: 270k s/rention/retention/g
Same boat, quit this week.
Why is there a comp cliff? Thought Googlw had good refreshers so you don't have a cliff?
Yep. And also expect your post promo comp to drop also because refreshers at SEE are higher than CME at the next level (which you will automatically get).
What does CM stand for? EE is exceeds expectations I’m guessing
Continuously Meets Expectations.
What's a 'retention' offer? Is it common practice for managers to match external offers?
Google does this, but not a guarantee to match comp, but there’s possibility for a raise if manager really likes you. FB doesn’t do it or “counter offer” at all.

I’d stay unless you think the economy will be strong for the next 1.5 years.
