I’m curious on what other companies do for these types of policies. - Company strongly prohibits using personal laptops but the one they provide is a piece... also I use MacBook for all development (java) and they provide windows. I’d really just like to use my own. Is BYOD common or rare? - Using USB is prohibited, specifically to copy and files. If I really wanted to copy company files there are just as easy ways than flash drive. - Company provided and monitored and policed company issue phone. Can only access email via this phone not a personal phone. Company issued phone has ton of restrictions like complex password and constant monitoring like the company issued laptops have. And a ton of general restrictions and policies aimed at privacy that in my eyes only make development more difficult than what they aim to protect. Are all these types of policies common or can most of you use personal phones and computers to access the network and do development without much issue? These policies make sense for highly sensitive work but this is just across the board
Do you like the company? Is it out of the question to seek employment elsewhere?
It’s such a push back on allowing me to just do my job that yes it makes me consider it where I can just use the tools that I need.
We get a top end MacBook that is not really locked down, so no desire to use personal device for business. We use personal cell phones and expense the monthly bill. We don't really want a lot of friction to stop development....
