I am a bit fed up of constant micromanagement and a culture which is becoming toxic. I am looking to explore product companies (tech-giants) and startups which don't have daily standups as part of development process. What are the companies which follow such a development process? I'm fine with challenging work, but not with having to justify every minute I spend in office. YOE: ~3 Current TC: 25LPA (Series-C startup) #bangalore #startup #techgiant
It's more manager dependant than company dependant. However, many teams in Microsoft and Google don't have stand ups from what I've heard.
A daily stand up isn't to justify what you do. The daily is to share with your team work activities they need to be aware of that impact their work, work that has been completed, what you will be working on next and if you have any issues that need management or upper level support. If you feel micromanaged then 1. manage up and change the situation, 2. Provide the info your team needs from you to move the product forward or 3 continue to look for another job. Either way how you work there is how "you" will work anywhere. Good luck
Don’t you just say blocked/not blocked and move on the the next person? Unless you sit on a story forever and people be like wtf is the status
I used to hate this model initially but in today's time with things need to move faster and in coordination, it is important. Take it as simple normal standup of 5 min where you say what you did, are you blocked on something, any dependencies. Just this much. Keep updating your jira or if it's too big divide them to reflect progress. If you are following this, stand-up will be a normal activity for you.

Worried that our top performer is an attrition risk. How do managers handle this?
standups are just a status meeting. i doubt the meeting itself is the problem
Yeah, but I somehow don't get the point of daily status updates. I mean, blocking issues should be raised real-time, not at a predefined period.
fair point, sometimes its hard to get everyones attention at the same time without a predefined mtg
