Hi all,

I left a company 2 yrs ago. When I was leaving they told me they will send a box to send laptop back but never did. I reached out to them a few times but didn’t get any traction.

All in all, the laptop is still sitting with me. However it’s locked and unusable. It keeps bothering me that it’s not my property but I don’t want to take the pain to go to NYC and give it back. I am not in New York anymore.

What should I do? Is it trash now or can be used?

TC 180k however unrelated

What 👆🏽 said. If no response, see if you can wipe it and install fresh OS and use it. If not, sell it for parts.

I might add some language like “please reply by x date or I will dispose of it” to be safe. But if it’s been 2 years already I doubt they care anymore.

If it really bothers you that much then just ship it to them(yes using ur own money). You can select the slowest shipping and the cost shouldn't be too bad. Like 50 bucks.

How so. At least it shows you made effort to send back their equipment. And it will definitely be delivered if sent to the company's main office.

It is company property, not yours. I don’t know why anyone would think its okay to use it or trash it as your own over returning it just because correspondence slipped through the cracks with the company. Its still company property. Just do the right thing and contact who you need to make sure it gets returned or risk possible repercussions.

Unless OP wants to be sued, they need to be aware of what their state law says about abandoned property.
