5-year experience eng. Moved to the Bay Area two years ago from Seattle and now feel a bit burned out by the peer pressure and endless overtime(not only Airbnb but also one of FAANG). Now I even start missing my life in Seattle. Are there some companies that care both your career and life? Well, it can just be that I just happened to be on shitty teams.
Plenty of people here are chill and work less than 40 hours a week. I typically work noon to seven.
Amazon, but only if you get an org and team that actively pushed for work life balance. Lots of interesting work, but also little work life if you’re not careful.
Which teams are good in your opinion?
I’m on an internal team in EC2 (AWS) and we have great work life. As a whole, unless you get on a high ops team, AWS is pretty good. Also I’ve heard some of the game industry teams in amazon do pretty well as well. Retail is a mixed bag.
Salesforce has great work life balance, and you can work from home whenever you want but our pay isn't that good after 2 years due to no refreshes. Base is great though. New grads get 125-145k
