I have the following two offers in hand: 1. AWS: Cloud support engineer 2 DevOps Base: $108k ; Sign on bonus: $30k(first year), $26k(second year), RSU worth of $75 over 4 years. 2. Red Hat: Senior Consultant(Containers). Got a verbal offer. Details to follow. Judging by what the HR said, it should be around $140k. I don't know if they give IBM stocks. Which one should I choose? Any insights would be appreciated. Current role: Cloud Engineer, TC: $70k, YOE: 5 (1.5 DevOps, rest Infra/Ops)
Run away from support. Don't look for AWS brand. It's pretty useless. There's a million fools out there with the brand, it's not exactly scarce. You'll hate your life
Red Hat
Openshift is an interesting product with lots of potential, but AWS will definitely pay more over time.
It def is. I guess in terms of WLB and culture Red Hat wins big time.
AWS it really depends on your org leader. I feel like I have great WLB and am creating lots of value (Bizdev/Ops role). The brand will carry better if you ever decide it's not for you.
I was a software consultant at IBM. I don't think IBM typically gives stock (not sure if RedHat is operating differently). I also don't think you will ever see any bonus that they mention so don't count on that. Amazon is the better company to have on a resume but they also have PIP culture. RedHat would have a better WLB than a support role at AWS. IBM has an RA culture though. Having worked at IBM for 8 years I probably take an Amazon offer just for future career progression from having that name on your resume.
If you have family, RedHat has amazing WLB, but if you are still young and single, AWS for more growth.
How was your last Panel interview where you hat to do a presentation?
It was aight. There were two senior managers and an Architect on the panel. They let me present first, did some follow ups on that & asked tech questions afterwards.

Same location? AWS will be a better TC if you last into years 3-4 but I've heard red hat WLB is amazing.
AWS is based outta Seattle. For Red Hat, it's gonna be either Dallas or Boston with a lot of travel to client sites.
I'd adjust for COL when considering TC. Seattle is way more expensive than Dallas
