Im a new CTO building out my department during a series B raise. I've got a bunch of reqs and am not having much of a problem finding candidates. I have 18+ YOE at big and small companies and I like to think I have a very good idea what the TC should be for different levels within software development and architecture. My boss, the CEO is starting to question what and how I am coming up with TC for offers to new employees. He wants some independent verification of what I am saying. I'm not upset or anything, he is more of a finance guy and doesnt know much about software engineering salaries, what he is asking for is fair and reasonable. Does anyone have any suggestions where to get data for compensation, specifically in the software development, engineering, and architecture type positions? I dont much trust payscale.com, salary.com, glassdoor.com and similar. Im willing to spend a 1K-2K or become a member of an organization if need be. Thanks
You should be able to talk to your VC to get salary data.
I feel stupid now not thinking of this, good idea, i will do this, thanks
Levels.fyi is pretty accurate I hear
Thanks, i will check this out
Do you think $300k is a lot of money for an engineer?
No, DOE
https://angel.co/ lists salary straight from company. Looks on par with the sites you don't trust.
Its not so much I dont trust them, it just seems the data is all over the place. And the data is free and I am generally suspect of free things
All of the companies use Radford salary database for compensation analysis.
There's also the option impact database startups and VC's use.
TC is harder but the h1b salary database is public, free and legally completely accurate and well organized by company, location and title
Yes, uh hi. Please give me a high paying job. I’ll only take 30% extra from glassdoor since you dont trust em
I.e don’t trust blind. What location?
Los Angeles
