I am in interview process switching from Msft Seattle to Bloomberg in NY. However after looking for apartments to rent, I found they would have to increase my base pay by at least 30k only to cover for rent difference. Considering those 30k and assuming approximately 20% increase on my base pay, they would have to offer me around 200k a year. People at @Bloomberg, could I expect for an offer around those digits for a 3-4 year experience software engineer? Or should I state how much I am expecting to be offered early on, so that we don't go through the whole interview process in case they are only willing to offer less?
Sounds about right. The jobs in NYC never did pencil out for me for some people the city element is worth it to them over the money aspect. Don't forget to consider state and city income taxes as well.
The work culture is like shit there. Seems like working in a fish pond! If u don't like NYC for whatever rent u quote, don't make the switch. It's also a company that never hires anyone back who quit on their own. Speaks a lot about their culture
They changed that policy recently they will hire back
How much is your current rent and what's the expected new rent? 30k difference sounds really high.
Currently 1500/month. Expecting it to be around ~3200/month. Which is +20400/year. Given that I would have to pay taxes, base salary would need to be around +30k
In New York, you share a one bedroom apt with a roommate. ~1500 per month
