I heard some new information around product management compensation for Director/VP levels and my mind was blown away so I want to make sure a) the numbers i heard are real, and b) i am not living under a rock in terms of comp. What i heard was that in San Francisco at a Director level at say #facebook #google #amazon #shopify #doordash #uber #lyft folks are getting offers that are > $1M/year including cash, comp, and bonus. Has anyone who has received offers in the last 3 months share some insight so i can evaluate if I am grossly underpaid or doing well. Thank You! L8 @ Square $800K/year Edit: 12 years of product experience; 19 overall.
Directors at large companies pay more yes...
yoe?
Director level at a smaller company usually starts at 300k depending on the level of title inflation. To be a director at FAANG is basically the equivalent of exec level elsewhere, and that's how the compensation works. You can't translate the title 1:1. This is coming from a guy that's director level at a ~$3B public company. If I were to want to move to FAANG I'd probably only be L6. TC 325k YOE 3
With 3 yoe, you wouldn't qualify for L6 at a FANG. At best L5. Doesn't matter what your title is at a small public company.
