Moving from Bay Area to Philadelphia due to personal circumstances, coming from a big tech company in area as a recently promoted L4 and will apply to big companies / startups in Philly. Not ideal in terms of comp but it's just something I gotta do. Anyone know what the compensation range for an SDE II (I assume the equivalent of l4?) is at comcast? I'll be interviewing there soon so just trying to get an idea as it seems like the best option for big companies in the area. Is 100K too much to ask for? Not quite sure what to expect. Also if anyone has any suggestions for other good companies or startups to look at in Philadelphia that would be cool too. I don't really care too much where I work. I have 2 YOE. Total comp right now ~190K.
Definitely not, you can get a senior engineer title with at least 130K base
Do you mind clarifying this? On Linkedin I see roles for Software Engineer II, Engineer III, Engineer 4, etc. I only have 2 years of experience out of college -- do you still think I should apply to a senior engineer title? The listings say 5-8 YOE
Senior software Engineer is Eng 4. You can get upto Eng 3 with your experience. For Eng 3 at Philadelphia, you may get max upto 115k - 120k. Eng 2 is around 110k. Also there is a 8% annual bonus( So around 10k and every one gets it). They do offer RSU but that is really low and vesting cycle of 5 years... kind of a joke. Also u will get free cable tv and internet connection.
Thanks for the info! So you think I should simultaneously apply for Eng 3 and Eng 2 roles? I guess I don't wanna shoot for a role I"m underqualified role and then not even get the one I might be qualified for. In essence, I think comcast will be the best bet for me and I just kinda wanna get the job there. Also -- I"m not sure if you know anything about interviewing, but are leetcode esque questions normal for the interview? Or will it be more textbook style questions (java, http, etc)?
You can apply for 2 and 3 roles. Interview will most likely be leetcode easier type of medium problems. Also interviewers may ask questions relating to a programming language ( say java) and basics of networking. Please do know that 70 percent of comcast projects somehow linked with networking. It could be hardcore network or could be a rest api system which deals with networking devices management etc. So knowing the network basics is encouraged.
I was engineer 4 for 5 years at Comcast, last year 120k base, 10yoe
I have 1 YOE and currently an Eng2 at comcast with a 100k salary so its definitely not too much to ask. Coming from FB you could probably get more
Did you start as Eng 1 and get promoted? Or did you join as Eng 2 with 100K? Do you think with 2 YOE at FB i should be applying to Eng 3 role or senior role? It's kinda hard to tell what level of role i would be qualified for :0
I had 1yoe outside the company then was offered Eng2. Definitely apply to both Eng 2 and 3 and negotiate higher than 100k
