I haven’t done shit today!
Currently at Intel, OR. What is an expected level and compensation @Apple ? Education: PhD (top tier school) YOE: 5 Grade at Intel: 8 TC: 200K
I think, we grade 9 and above, the pay starts to look similar. At Intel with grade 9, you can contribute a lot and make a difference. Your TC currently looks like a high 7, so there is a lot of room there with one more promotion. At apple, you might not have much flexibility to contribute in a way that you would grow, but you'll be expected to deliver only in a way it makes sense for them. Internal job change is a big factor in my opinion, and is almost non existent at Apple.
Having an Apple interview is step one. If you get an offer, which is not that easy from seg, we can discuss more. If you are working in IL, PM me.
The Apple Portland RSUs initial grant is really bad. Not at all comparable to even Austin. Their logic is that because Intel doesn’t grant a lot of RSUs, we’ll find someone who’ll come work for us at this grant. We’re not going to incentivize more. Even if you have competing offers, they’re not willing to budge on negotiation for Apple Portland.
NVIDIA has a big group up in Oregon, try that out?
Really? I did not know about that, will take a look thanks! Do you know what groups they have in Oregon?
Yea! I used to work at NVIDIA and they had a big GPU and Tegra system group up there. Not sure what they have now, but the team I worked with was awesome. I remember the group also had a few ex-Intel people.
"I feel that Intel offers way more if you are interested in exploring multiple fields to focus on" LOL, that is only because Intel Oregon is a graveyard of failed projects. You can keep kissing manager and PE ass at Intel and hope for that promo to grade 9 or you can GTFO and learn useful things at Apple and get paid more doing so. Your choice.
Thanks for taking the time to confirm the sentence you picked from original post. I’d really appreciate if anyone had any input about the actual question here though.
Here's a hint: look at the people getting promoted for a glimpse into the company's future. Every year they announce the PE promotions. Does the list make you say, "what the fuck?" Intel jumped the shark years ago, everyone is leaving or getting laid off. Get ahead of the rush.
