Hi All, I am new to this community and probably do think I am one-off considering my work background. I do work as a Big Data developer in the healthcare sector. I had a screening with a Netflix recruiter who wants to proceed to the next level with the hiring manager. But she also wanted me to give her a number for the expected compensation. I did go through lots of Glassdoor posts but didn't find any reports on Netflix compensation for Sr Data Eng and I am not sure if I should trust Paysa altogether. Also most of the compensation reports are based out of people in Los Gatos as opposed to LA. Would any one know if there is a difference in compensation between the 2 areas based on cost of living(LA is definitely not cheap!),bay area competition and other factors. Also the fact that I am coming from a contracting position where I made a lot more hourly, I did find myself in a pickle when this question was posed and replied politely that I would get back to her later. Also now that she wants to proceed to the next level with the hiring manager, she has proposed 3 dates for the interview calls. I am tempted to choose the date farthest away as it gives me time(1.5 weeks. Eeeks!!) to prep but I am not sure if it makes me look bad/or un-enthusiastic. This talk with the recruiter was out of the blue as she reached out to me and I am really out of the interview-game and need all the time to prep. Also any tips on how to prep for the Sr Data Engineer role with Netflix would be deeply appreciated as I didn't find a lot of posts in Blind wrt the role. Thanks y'all And its 2 more days till the long weekend...
Ha ha ha! You guys crack me up. Not even my kidney or if I throw in both my kidneys and a liver are worth so much :-p
It's well known that Netflix pays *VERY* well, but it is also well known you may or may not being around long. Look up the sporting team analogy in the Netflix Culture Deck, now widely available online.
I totally agree with that. It’s a huge risk. The funny thing was the recruiter didn’t even bother sending me the culture deck and began talking to me about it, with the assumption that I should know about it. And well she did sound like a brain-washed drone reading the lines exactly from the slides. Well I guess they don’t have to sell the company to you !
After Patty McCord left, I am not sure they just share the deck anymore. Though as far as I know, it is still well intact.
My offer was for 370k. I didn’t give them a number for expected compensation. They try and pay your personal top of market anyway, so just depends how you perform in interviews and the experience and skill set you bring.
By the way I’m in the Bay Area. Not sure how much different compensation in LA is.
Wow! Congrats and good for you. I am sure you deserve it. Also probably coming from LinkedIn you have a strong background and they wanted to snatch you up. Have you considered the move to Netflix? Also which team did you interview for? And any tips for a newbie as to what I should focus on for DE interview prep?
Thanks @tVfy86. Watch out for my PM.
If your expectation is lower than what they have in mind they will ignore it. If it is higher they will ask for data. If you have data to support it then they may pay you more, but only if it fits the Netflix way of evaluating offers. Coming from healthcare background you may be surprised by the comp. Don’t stress about it and assume you will be paid very well and go forward if you actually want the job.
500k
