Which tech CEO will do a good job as the President of USA
I am current ICT 8 YOE with TC close to 280K. I have the following two offers (both in bay areas) Google L4 TC 245k (150k/300k/30k) Amazon L5 TC 280k (160k/220k/170k) I am very surprised at googles offer. I want to get some ideas on what I can negotiate next. For people who have competing offers, do you accept or reject on orally or you wait for both offer comes in mail before making a decision? Really hope to get some advice here.
Why are you looking? Seems like Apple is paying you in line with what others are offering.
Apple is indeed paying pretty well. I want to change my field and it’s pretty hard to switch internally in Apple.
Isn’t your Amazon TC really closer to $250k given the vesting schedule? The G offer actually seems better considering refreshers. Why do you think the G offer is worse?
There is a 20k difference between first year and second year sign in bonus.
I think you are also right. The recruiter is saying amazon stock is averaged at 1710 where it’s at 1500 right now. They might calculated it based on 1710 price.
Seems low-ball for 8 yoe
Yes, that’s what I thought too.
That’s insanely lowball. Like almost 30% lowball. I think they actually expect you to negotiate
G offer is low. It should be $300k+ TC. Ask for more RSU. Base has smaller room to go till $160k ish for L4. Your Amazon offer is $250k as vesting = (5/15/40/40).
Why do you think any rando interviewing deserves a top tier offer? Offer seems about right to me given just the Amazon compete.
Doesn't hurt to ask for more $$$? Not negotiating is essentially negotiating a lower offer.
300k+ at G is L5 for HW.
You can get close to 300 for L4 HW but how do you know OP is in hardware?
I want to know what OP is in
Then you can definitely get 300+ but Google will ignore your current pay. You need strong competing offers to make them move. Also, if your current TC including stock appreciation?
It’s 8 years so there are some stock appreciation but recently it also went down about 20%. My current TC is accurate I believe.
Negotiate with Google. You have great negotiation power. Don’t choose Amazon
Any reason for not choosing amazon? Is it because of WLB? Both position looks pretty interesting, with amazon wins slightly.
Amazon is very frugal. Regarding compensation, no point to stay more than 4 years. Google has good refreshers. Culture is very toxic. Management is very weak and usually incompetent. WLB is good i think. It depends on team.
I’m guessing that this is: Y1: $160k. $97k cash. $11k RSU= $268k Y2: $160k. $73k cash. $38k RSU=$271k Y3: $160k. $116k RSU=$276k (With $38k being 220*0.05*1.15) Stock refreshers kick in after your initial grant is used up (no overlaps) At 270 you’re at the top of the L5 SDE band, so don’t expect any meaningful raise at review time (especially if the stock goes up) Probably still a good time to jump into Amazon if you think the stock is undervalued. Not sure how they calculate the initial vest amount (trailing 1 mo avg or trailing 3, but given that it is much lower than the peak it could just be worth waiting a bit and negotiating more stocks.). Ask your recruiter this.
It was trailing 3 month average so there is a 20% inflated RSU calculation. Will negotiate with them again.

Which do you want to work for? Negotiate with the 2nd choice and then go to the first choice.
Thanks for the link. It’s really helpful. Both offers are pretty good. I don’t really have any preference right now.
