I interviewed all day with Atlassian Wednesday for a senior engineering role and got a rejection email on Thursday.

I thought all of my interviews went quite well. However the first coding interview was on the vote system, and I got it correct but when the second part came to handle ties, I got stuck. The interviewer wasn’t the most helpful and I couldn’t figure out how to handle a tie in the situation whoever gets to a higher number first.

All of my other interviews went great and I was sure I’d get the offer.

First of all, is it a bad sign I got a generic rejection email the next day? Not even a phone call?

I did ask the recruiter for some feedback and she called me and told me she can’t say much but that one technical interview didn’t go as great. All the others did. Does atlassian really decline someone just from one of the interviews going bad?? That seems ridiculous. Also I don’t think it went bad. I just couldn’t get part 2 to work.

    This is the current expectation. Part 2 was the real interview and part 1 was the warmup

      Ah I see. I did figure out the trick of the weighted votes being the tie breaker. But the part I couldn’t get is if there was still a tie after that. Which is such a small edge case

    I got rejected last year - when I was provided feedback, I was told I aced everything. I asked ..so was it the behavioral? And I was told ..no, that was good, as well.

    "So, is there anything that i could improve on? "

    "Rverything is good but we get a lot of candidates and the team rejects a lot of them."

    I was baffled.

    I did Atlassian interview last week, just for practice. They are not offering competitive salary. They offered me TC 210 CAD/163 USD.

      Yup they are paying like shit to Canadians. Plus, they are doing the taxes for you, which means that I am losing 40% in tax.
