Indian in canada I have been with Microsoft Canada for 2 years now and naturally my L1b process started. After some thinking, I decided to decline the application and instead opted for PR. Thinking I might not get this opportunity once I move to US and didn't wanted to regret it. Was it a smart move? I know I'm losing ton of money staying in Canada. Now, I feel it's better to move to India to get away from high tax (Canada) or instability (US). Too confused!! #canada
You might end up paying similar percentage in taxes in India though. Taxes are high in India for larger income groups.
Dumbest statement ever. Check the taxes in Canada, not even close.
Just curious, is TC in India at MSFT better than in Canada? I know Canadian engineering TC is uncompetitive, but is it actually so low that you'd consider returning to a developing country for a better deal?
I mean this is your personal decision but TC after tax is not the only thing that matters I think? Quality of life and stability is much better in Canada on average than in India, if that’s something you want to factor in. But you should definitely do your homework to determine what will be your actual take home in India for the same role because yes you might end up making more there, and can afford maid cook etc
With respect to money, money saved after expenses (including little bit over spending) in Canada is 1.5x than in India.
Would be nice if you provided some numbers.
I would always pick a good, working system.
Isn't tax is pretty high in India as well? Higher than Canada?
Don’t buy the maid, cook and living king size life in India BS. Pick a place where you would be having better situation in time of crises.
Sorry but why not? It does alleviate you of unnecessary headaches
Its not only money.. think about security/office politics/working hours/traffic Make a pro/con list and then decide.
I am confused too, but just confused how everyone in Canada seems to live such rich and fancy lives on these kinds of salaries. Canadian Goose jackets $2600 1BH houses Fancy cars!
I have similar confusion lol
Lolz I was having the exact same discussion yesterday with a friend. How are people buying $1mn+ houses with mandatory 20% downpayment. Also Canada’s mortgage stress test is one of the strictest in the world, so these folks aren’t defaulters either. The only conclusion we could reach was people who have purchased a condo as recent as 2016 have made a fortune probably selling for atleast $200k profit. Also Canada has zero tax on primary residence property sales. So that profit has gone for down payment and they are paying monthly mortgage only.

Post tax in Canada is still > what you make in India.
But expenses is also >> what u spend in India. Gotta look at the proportion
but school, medical system, security in canada >> same in india
