Confusing Google interview feedback
I am currently based in San Luis Obispo and interviewed for a technical product manager (IC L6) role at Google. Waited 2 weeks for feedback. Noted that I was interviewing for a specific team so no team matching process.
The recruiter said all the interview feedback was positive. But they feel the scope of the role is too small compared to what I am doing now (I am leading a team now), so they decided to pursue other candidates. But they want to keep in touch when they have a team lead role opens up as they think a lead role is more fitting to my scope and experiences.
It feels like a compliment (??) but still a rejection for sure.
1) If they really like me, can’t they create a role for me?
2) Did my packet go to HC and got this feedback? Does HC even look at things this way? E.g. You are too senior for the role, so no.
3) Is it a cost issue? Want someone cheaper?
Also, the hiring manager is fairly new to google and seems like a junior people manager. But I did interview with a few directors too.
Appreciate any insights into this
