Cons of changing my LinkedIn and resume job history to give me more experience?

I graduated in May with a non-CS degree, and did not start a position until the February of the following year. What are the cons of changing my job history on linkedin, resume, etc., to say that I started working in June or August right after graduation? It's not even a full year I know, but I don't have that many years currently so they'll make a bit of a difference.

I thought about making my graduation a semester or two sooner and giving myself an additional 6-12 months experience, but that might be stretching it as my college graduation and degree would prove that wrong.

Bonus question: what about changing my career history to make it look like I got promoted more than reality? Keeping it realistic, but somewhat overperforming?

EDIT: people are saying this would get discovered. The only reason I considered this is because I know of companies that take people without CS background and makeup fake experience for them, provide fake references (that actually answer the phone), etc. I imagine these people can't fake a background check, so how do they get around that? I didn't do this, but I do know friends who lied about years of experience and made it into industry that way.

Just to be clear, you're asking about the consequences of lying on your resume ?
Nobody cares about LinkedIn - you can make up whatever shit you want. Providing a false job history to a future employer would be a serious issue and likely to be discovered. It won't end well.

    • I guess it makes sense if I didn't have experience, but at this point the risk outweighs the gains. Thanks for the advice.

If you're using a fake company than you'll be fine. But if you use your current employer, when the background check happens you'll have said you worked there a year and they'll will say you've worked there 2 months.

You will fail your background check. So you'll get an offer, resign your current company, be super excited and then background check comes in and they revoke the offer and you're unemployed.

  • Don’t do it. Remotely not worth the tension, won’t recommend.
