Had an on-site with a well known Bay Area company on 11/22, and recruiter was in regular contact during this time. Interviews went great, they all liked me, and they were already talking like I had the job. He said to check with him the following week, as he should have feedback by then. I did. He then said "I'll need another week to get feedback and a decision." I waited a week and wrote him again. No answer. The next day, I called him. No answer. Called him from a different number. No answer. Emailed him again, saying to please just give me an update, even if he doesn't have a decision yet. No answer. Mind you, this is a company that prides itself on having a smooth, pleasant HR experience for candidates (and up until now, it was). I'm done. Realllly wanted this job, but I'm done trying. If he calls me Monday, great. If not, I'll keep applying elsewhere. Waiting this long (3 weeks) has deflated almost all my excitement. It's so incredibly unprofessional and inconsiderate to do this to candidates. We put a ton of effort and heart into these interviews, and they can't give the courtesy of an update, even if it's to say there's no update yet. I'd honestly rather get rejected than be ghosted. It comes after a year of going through similar experiences with other companies. Aced a Splunk interview and he even told me he'd bring me on site, and then ONE MONTH later he changed his mind. FB waited two weeks, and only after I kept inquiring, to say No after two video calls. I don't ghost recruiters, and it's far worse when they do it to us. What a complete lack of consideration it shows potential employees whose lives are very much tied to new opportunities and the work that goes into interviewing for them.
The job hunting process is a grind. Hang in there! You should prepare for the worst but hope for the best. The recruiter could have had an emergency that they’re dealing with and with the holidays etc, I can see why dates would slide. You should continue exploring opportunities until you have an offer in hand.
Name and shame, and then cost them money in the future by not choosing to go with their products and solutions. I'm obviously not salty at all.
This^ Don’t protect evil!
Would love to post the company, but don't want to jeopardize my chances yet. Maybe after this is all done I will shame them. Actually in the case of Splunk, there was definitely an emergency with the recruiter that was explainable. Doubt so this time. And if people are busy with the holidays, that's fine, he can at least tell me so because I gave him multiple opportunities to do so.
What if they are waiting for other candidate response who is waiting another company to respond
Sure, then say, "Sorry, we still don't have a decision yet. We'll keep you posted." And don't promise me an answer in a week if you can't deliver! And if you can't, own up to it.
I can name many companies. Twitter, Pinterest, Dropbox, LinkedIn. I think that's just how recruiters are. I learned to move on.
Is it possible the recruiter is fired?
I don't think so. He's got tons of experience and knows what he's doing. Whatever his reason is, it better be a good one.
I’m not sure if there is anything you can do other than to keep pinging the recruiter. In any case it is usually a good idea to apply to more than one job at the same time.
Hello, I am awaiting a decision from Google since last Tuesday. Should I email the recruiter? She is not very responsive from my experience.
The Google hiring process is extremely slow. Have to be patient to get into Google.
Even on blind the OP is concerned about secrecy.
He shared enough details that if I was the recruiter, I’d be able to figure out who it is.
Yes the recruiter would sift through everything on every post on blind. 😑
not to spoil your mood, but did you review your interview and see why you couldn't get any onsites?
With Splunk, it was a go until he decided at the last minute I lacked experience in one area the position required. With FB, they didn't give feedback but those PM design questions can be brutal. I did well, but sometimes well isn't good enough for some FAANG positions. But with this company I'm posting about, I did extremely well so it's hard to explain.
It happened to me in Google. Recruiter said they’ll submit to HC, but I was waiting with no communication for several weeks. Turned out the recruiter had transferred to a different team and dropped the ball. It was incredibly frustrating. I’m sorry you are going through this. But hang in there. Btw, do consider naming the company and contribute to Blind at some point. Everyone is taking a risk by helping others here, so please do the same.
