I've been offered an interview at FB to work as a senior software engineer on new automation engines like FBOSS. The job sounds extremely interesting and like it's a great place to continue growing. I am new to the area, overqualified for T-mobile, and nervous about interviewing. Any thoughts on the culture? Is ageism as rampant there as rumors say? Is the interview process a killer? What is job stability like there? Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks!
Interviews are tough but I think FB is worth it. I don't think ageism is that bad, plenty of older folks here but tons of new grads too, I think it's a good mix
Agree I have myself worked with some of the folks at Facebook who were quite older than I am but they were doing fine
At this point just attend, clear the interview and get the offer. Worry about accepting / rejecting the offer later. Interviews itself will be challenging, focus your time and energy on that, all the best :-)
Any suggestions on what to expect or how to prepare for a coding interview at FB?

As one of the 'quite older' persons at FB, I wouldn't say it's ageist. However there seems to be almost a dismissal of any of your experience before FB as relevant that I find frustrating. I don't expect instant credibility because of my past experience, but it does have some relevance so working in a culture that seems to resist acknowledging that there was life before FB can be challenging at times. That said, the Seattle office seems to have a higher percentage of old people :-).
Could you tell us where you were before FB and how competitive your peers at FB are compared to previous company?
Rather not disclose where I was before, but suffice to say it was a big company, but not based on the west coast. I feel like a lot of the things I've experienced at FB are in part a cultural difference in Silicon Valley based companies. As to competitiveness of peers, I think this depends on the team and your function - and whether you're an IC or manager. I'd say FB felt more competitive, but I felt the most competitive with myself if that makes any sense? It was hard to ever feel like anything was enough. But I think a lot of that was down to the team I was on and the ambiguity of my particular role. In the end, FB wasn't for me. But I don't blame FB or myself - just not a match and I knew that pretty soon after I started.
OP, how old are you ?
Highly unstable jobs can be found at fb
Unstable as in a lot of layoffs?
This guy doesn’t know what he’s talking about. FB doesn’t have layoffs especially not in eng. Your worry should he passing the interviews.
