I’m in Product Marketing but honestly getting burnt out by being in such a connector role, between the pandemic making me less outgoing and not working in person where I can foster actual interpersonal relationships, I’m constantly drained by the extra effort required to “quarterback” initiatives across multiple teams. And I don’t really enjoy supporting sales anymore. The one part of my job I love is content. Plus outside of reviews or brainstorming sessions, content creation is super independent. I’m wondering how much Sr or Dir of content marketing folks make? I’m willing to give up some salary for more peace of mind and autonomous work, but I’m not sure how big of a drop (if any) that I’d be looking at Wanted to clarify: I’d be searching within tech in SIlicon Valley/SF Bay Area
Offered 80k EUR ($90k USD) at a French company. Negotiated up to 90k EUR ($102k USD). Interviewing for others in London where range is slightly higher for Director of Content (£80-100k is the best I've seen). Industry really varies. Retail pays pennies. Tech and health pays high.
I don’t think Sr. Or Dr. pays that little, at least not in the Bay Area. We have a range of 120k USD-180k for Sr. And Dr. I think. (Base)
UK salaries are at least 30% lower, though.
Damn, there aren’t more content marketers in here 😂
At my company I know some Content Marketing Managers whose base is $160k I don't know total comp. Its based in the Bay Area. Hopefully that helps.
Thanks
TC?
I’m in product marketing and feel the same way 😪
Same here.
It’s tiring, half my mental energy just goes into being amicable and “team player”

Typically content marketing pays much lower than product marketing. Don't know the difference though.
Agreed. Plus content marketing supports sales too. So don’t be too disappointed if you really transform
I assume content marketing doesn’t have as many connecting points as the product when it comes to marketing activities. I too assume it pays lower. I also wonder what you think your career path will look after moving into this role from product marketing
Friend is senior manager of content marketing in Boston and makes 97k base and I believe 15% bonus in edtech. So in higher paying tech sectors and higher COL area you’d probably get a decent chunk more
Boston is pretty high COL… you can argue it’s almost the same as the Bay Area
Boston is “the” city. So it’s not fair to compare it with the whole Bay Area. Boston is not as high COL as SF, and the nearby area is definitely more affordable than the Bay Area
How challenging has it been to even be considered for those content roles?
That’s super rude.
