Just got offered a contract at apple from 3rd party recruiter. Anyone have experience here?
DM for referral for role you see
On the flip-side, the bar to work as a contractor at FAANG is *much* lower. Typical screenings are just a single 30-60min session. Sometimes, the manager just looks at the resume to make a decision. If you’re bad at interviews or not strong enough to survive an all-day interview, going into a prestigious company via a consultant gig is one way to get your foot into the door. Just make sure you’re with a smaller tier2 firm. If you’re with a large firm that supplies thousands of heads to the company, there’s likely an agreement in place to not hire their consultants until after a cooling period after the contractor quits (typically 6-12 months)
What is a tier 2 firm?
Tier2 = Smaller-scale consultancy firms. Tier1 = Biggest firms, like Tata, Infosys, Quest, etc...
Hey, I have experience in that. It was interesting and gave a huge boost to my resume, but make no mistake - you're temporary. Out of 30+ contractors on the team in the past few years only one of them converted to fulltime. But with the resume boost you'll have no problem getting interviews with other large companies for fulltime.
Can you please tell me where to look for and apply for these contract positions?
Not really sure, they won't list the company name in the job listing so its kinda luck of the draw. But every large company has contract positions. Look for contract jobs in general like on LinkedIn and you may be able to judge by location/tech stack. But honestly, don't waste your time with that. They don't give benefits, so you're much better off studying and applying for fulltime.
Former Googler, lay-off had me land on my feet at Apple with a role that had promise but started with a Contract. Highly regret it, team is a let down & already looking for my next role (either in Apple or elsewhere) I’ve heard it’s hit or miss depending on team (or specifically IS&T) but I’ve lost confidence. If that helps. For reference, negotiated 90$ hr, lead cloud engineer role.
Did u see the pay? In my experience they underpay a lot!
Yep. 55-60/hr
So no point on going with those companies, I think you can try going on your own and apply yourself
