Current: Full time job, TC = 90k (non tech role) Offered: Contract job (NOT pay by hour but will work with a client full time. Pay and benefits like PTO, insurance, and 401k will be from contracting company, although benefits are poor. When contract ends, I'll be moved to a different client), TC = 145k Same cost of living
FYI, usually for calculating the base salary for a contract position, 1920 work hours per year is considered and not 2080 hours/ year. Considering the loss in benefits. If you do your calculations using this and if the difference is still higher than about 30%, then I feel it might be worth considering the offer if you’re not on a visa here in the US.
1. I am on a visa 2. Pay will not be per hour, but a fixed TC of $145k 3. Difference is (145-90)/90, so almost 50% increase 4. Benefits will be through the contracting company but they are poor (10 paid leaves and high insurance premium) 5. If I accept the offer, I will be working from the client office for the duration of the contract. When it ends with one client, I will move to the next client for the contract duration.
