27M, single, currently in Pittsburgh, living a good life. Got a new job in NYC. Will have to move there by Feb/Mar. Looking for a lovely environment, meet new people and try new experiences. Not too much into partying though. Occasionally, yes. Want to save money and invest and grow in career.
Rental rates is off the roof and City taxes are much higher in NYC when compared to NJ which makes me think I should move to NJ instead.
A few friends of mine say one has to live in NYC for the experience and it comes with a cost.
Convince me to move to NYC!

Also I looked it up and it says you won't pay NJ tax but you won't get credit for the difference between NYC and NJ right? This sucks!
On top of everything else.
It's also a lifestyle, where everything is fast moving, spontaneous, energetic, and late. It's hard to describe until you've lived here.
Assuming from your question that convenience isn't a big factor for you, in terms of commuting to work and back, then it comes down to how spontaneous you are as a person. If you want to randomly grab a beer with a friend at 9PM, or just go to some Asian towns at 2AM for a snack, or having some (window) shopping urge in the middle of the weekend, or just suddenly need to have a specific cuisine, then living in NYC is the place for you. It's much easier to hop on a subway or a bus or just walking out there than having to take the weekend PATH to the city.
But if not and you're more of an introvert who spends more time indoor, absolutely no reason to live in NYC just for the sake of it.
Honestly I'm considering moving out of Manhattan, if not to New Jersey than to Brooklyn or Long Island City. After a certain age your body can't afford to be spontaneous anymore. I used to have meals at 3AM in KTown, now if I do that I'd feel like crap for 2 days.
