Trying to pick an internship with the intent of getting a return offer in the Seattle area. Here's the general impression I've gotten from reading company reviews: ==== Niantic ==== ++ Pros Great WLB (depending on what you work on) Interesting product Stable Ethical (?) -- Cons Inexperienced management Unclear career growth options Unlikely to IPO Low compensation after new grad ==== Convoy ==== ++ Pros Great learning opportunities Interesting work High impact opportunities -- Cons Bad WLB Iffy culture (Similar to Amazon) Inexperienced management Low compensation Unclear growth ladder ==== Uber ==== ++ Pros Good learning opportunities High prestige (?) Okay WLB Good compensation -- Cons Unstable company Iffy culture (?) Are these impressions accurate? If you have any advice or insights, I'd greatly appreciate it. #uber #niantic #convoy #seattle
I thought Niantic pays fairly well?
I can tell you Uber is a lot more stable than what people think. And it will be even better as there will be recovery from Covid next year. You will get to choose your team on a survey, so just list your top choices as core biz teams in Seattle and you will be fine. WLB and culture really depend on which team you go so people cant tell. A lot of interns went through internship program and got return offers this year when other companies cancelled their program or didnt hand out offers. I know a few who didnt get offer a year before or this year but they ended up joining other companies like Amazon as full-time. You will have more interview opportunities so this is a no brainer.
Do you know what team at Convoy? Feel free to DM me with any questions. WLB varies a lot by org.
Honestly, I would avoid Convoy for interning if you have any other options. Many (if not most) of Convoy's best software engineers are either actively interviewing with or have already left the company over the course of 2020.
Currently interviewing with them. Why is that the case?
I'd say Uber is fairly stable if u join a team in the core businesses eats/rides
True! I'm not sure how much control I'll have over what team I'm placed on as an intern, though. :/
