Cooling Periods

Aug 4, 2021 22 Comments

Hey all,

5 months ago I got rejected by Amazon, Microsoft on onsite. Both of the recruiters told me cooling period is 12months or so. I continued to improve my self since than.

But on the web(leetcode, quora, here teamblind, etc.) I've seen people talking that you can apply to another positions whenever you want.

So for an example I've failed at AWS, does that mean can I apply to a software engineer position in Amazon without waiting for 12 months?

I'm reluctant to ask this question to my recruiter since 5 months passed since we've contacted.

If you know the answer I appreciate all the help.(and maybe you can give info about other faangs too)

Thanks all

Microsoft recruiter lied to you. In msft, you can interview as many teams u want at any point of time but one team per year. Don't fall in recruiter trap but Amazon has thus strict policy of six months.

I got into my current job by violating cool down lol. I applied and received offer 2.5 months after I failed first on site. Just make sure to use different address and email

  • If you feel confident, there’s no harm in asking. If they have strict rules, you’ll get a negative. Else… maybe it’ll work.

Yeah I feel more confident now. For Microsoft I will check open positions and try to find different teams, maybe this way it can work. Thanks for the response.

  • Interviewed across 4+ teams at MS over a period of a year. 3 of which where on site and not done back to back.

You should be fine to reapply to another team within a few weeks or a recruiter may reach back out to you.

Thanks for the response. That's great news! Since it has been months I got rejected, now I will check open positions and try to find different teams job opportunities.

    • @HEtD35 2 of the roles were directly. If they don’t reach out after 2-3 weeks then assume they won’t contact you at all and look for another team.

Finding recruiters asking for people hiring events in LinkedIn will also get you noticed. Best of luck.
