Crazy high taxation feels taxation without representation
To folks not on H1b this might sound like a rant but hear me out. This is my story which i am sure is true for many others.
- i have been working in a high paying job for nearly a decade
- pay around 40 pc income tax as direct taxes
- plus 10-15 pc indirect taxes (sales tax etc), property tax etc
- contributed to economy by purchasing services and a million+ dollar home.
- never took a dime out of govt benefits instead contribute to social and medicare
- followed law to the letter. never even had a traffic ticket
- build entire professional life and family here in the US.
After all this, i been on H1b for nearly a decade with no timelines for GC. If i lose my job for any reason, i need to pack my bags uproot all that i have built and leave the country within 60 days.
Legal Immigration policies are archaic and penalize legal migration over illegal immigration, where in a legal h1b immigrant can take over 15 yrs to get GC. Multiple bills get introduced only for some knuckle head blocking it on some stupid political lines..
Its just so infuriating and frustrating.

I can see your point about H1B laws modified but taxation rant is a bit much. It has been posted at least 10-20 times every year around March - April.
You get a chance to make 600k or more (assuming based on your 40% tax bracket). Where else can you make that money?? If you had this chance somewhere else you wouldnāt be in this country.
So itās quid pro quo. You got as much or even multiples more from this country.
I was in line for a very long time. The perspective is still the same.
As with any investment, if you are so risk averse that you knowingly invested your whole life, professional and social circle, in one country where you feel you can be asked to leave any moment, then thatās a pretty bad investment choice YOU made. Either become more risk accepting and work with the cards you have, or diversify to a point you feel more comfortable. By diversify, it could mean anything where youāre not relying on the immigration system here⦠from moving elsewhere to adjusting mindset. But start with broadening your mind and stop assuming other people arenāt or havenāt gone through a lot of tough times.
And lol, like Blue Origin pointed out, youāve done no favors by paying your taxes or buying a house. No brownie points for a meets all expectations rating. Cut the self-aggrandizement while youāre at it if you can.
FYI, OP, if you live in California know that Gavin Nuisance signed a bill that gives free healthcareā¦. If and only if youāre an illegal alien.
Not to mention, H1Bs get thrown out 1 step out of line but illegals can commit multiple felonies and woke states wonāt help with their deportation.
