Have an offer at Facebook that I'm heavily considering turning down for less pay but better wlb. FB offer is 40k higher but the psc culture is a turn off and I don't need to grind at this point in my career (6 yoe, don't want to rest and vest but the competitive grind gets old). On the other hand I'm giving up the money, career growth, and resume brand of FB. Am I crazy? Current TC: 230k @ L5

Avoid teams with only Chinese or Indians especially with a Chinese/Indian manager
Not worth it for $40k!
What are your other options? You have your option of teams and would encourage you to talk to real life FB colleagues instead of blind.
Unfortunately I don't have a big network at FB, so I'm going off of blind and what I heard during interviews. Multiple interviewers had shaky answers to wlb when I asked during the on-site. Two of them honestly said it wasn't great.
Seriously, reach out to random ex-Amazonians on LinkedIn. You'll have a literal ton of choices.
40k is nothing, I agree that not worth it
Don’t let FB Go. Join FB despite all the reviews on blind, you would still need to experience it yourself. Just like how you don’t stop going for a movie from reading reviews you gotta give it a chance. Worst thing that can happen is 1 year of more pay and when you are unhappy no one is gonna stop you.
Do whatever the hell you want. WLB is better than 40k+ if that’s what you want/need. Plus you’ll just be enabling the denying people of pee breaks instead of destroying democracy. (Which will ultimately lead to the same thing)
Whoa, I’d join FB
What's your new TC? 460 and 500 is a lot different than 250 and 290.
Ex-Amazonian here. I’d say not worth it. While there is obviously some variations in terms of WLB across teams, the company culture in general is toxic. It is very heavily PSC driven, and that results into all forms of politics, unhealthy competition, and non-collaborative behavior. Amazon does not even come close. A bump in TC might be worth the hassle, yes, but it gotta be much higher than 40k. Amazon is no less of a brand name than facebook, and you can cash out that chip for a higher TC, either with facebook or some other company.
Agree with what @Ramstien said. I left Facebook after 18 months and came back to Amazon.
Thanks to both of you for the thoughts. Agree with some other replies that Wlb is possible with the right team, but it's a (big) risk. It makes sense for the psc to drive that type of culture with so many talented and ambitious people. It's unfortunate that it causes the negative aspects, but maybe that's an unavoidable part of the secret sauce.
There is also the aspect that at FB, you are helping a product that is mental cancer for humanity.
Can't say that aspect hasn't crossed my mind. I wish G had more HC in my area, I like the products and googlers I've met.
From that perspective, Google is no different. They tried to replicate that “mental cancer” some time ago. The only thing that stopped them is that they failed. The intent was there though. I can imagine how that intent may have quietly seeped into other Google products. They just don’t get the same media scrutiny.
Yes, you are crazy. If you want better WLB, choose a team within fb that has better WLB.
It sounds like some teams might be OK, but they would need to have open HC and I'd have to land there after boot camp. The psc system and calibration seems incentivized against wlb, and performance review systems are a powerful force.
I guess if you're this scared, go to your other options. Plenty of people will take your spot.
