e3 to e4 in 24 months. e4 to e5 in 33 months. is it really strict. is that why lots of fb people leaves around 2.5 years if they got stuck?

Very strict. Not like "fired at 24 months exactly" but you'll be put on a PIP if you don't make it to E4 within four promo cycles (I left right before this would've happened).

    • I'm in similar situation. If someone keeps performing "'meet" at e5, will he be let go?
What would be the ratio of people getting above "meet", can someone share?

    • You can meets all at e5 forever and be just fine. You'll keep getting your annual refreshers and raises. No termination worries unless you do something monumentally stupid.

Same for IC5. It's a terminal level. No promotion expectations.

I think it's been shared internally on percentage that meets or above, but I don't know what it is. You could shoot an email to your HRBP and ask.

I assume BillyBob is asking about non-Eng positions

    • It's exactly the same for IC5. A long as you meet expectations consistently, you're good.

There's actually a comp strategy to avoiding promotions. You can exceed or greatly exceed (or even redefine) without technically meeting the requirements of IC6. Do this for a few cycles and your raises and grants will start to be pretty sizable. You can move well outside of the IC5 band this way. Promoting to 6 could cause you to drop down to consistent meets all, which moves you through the salary band much more slowly.

After a few years of exceed at 5 (cause there's no requirement to promote so you can do this indefinitely) you could be making more than most 6's.

Requires some agreement from your manager not to put you up for a promo during calibrations though.
