Trying to understand mainly from an outsider perspective as eventually we have to buy a house in one of these areas. One kid is going to be in HS in a year and the other one in 3rd grade The questions I have 1. Private is $48k 2. Public I heard too much pressure ( I know pressure is good but I am trying to keep the balance) So which one? Is one school district better over another ? How do kids take it when move around High Schooltimeframe? Do they get adjusted or does it impact negatively? One option (don't know how feasible in a very long term) continue commuting from San Diego Our budget roughly is $2mil TC:400k
Fremont is a cheaper alternative
I don't think $2M buys much in Los Gatos or even Saratoga. Maybe some old 1600 sq ft SFH in Cupertino ... you still working at Qualcomm or perhaps you got plucked by Murthy and installed at Intel?
No not at Intel 🙂. Rumor going around that someone is going to buy your modem
Lol private school sounds dumb. If they can’t be top performers in public school, they can’t compete anywhere.
Thanks. Is this opinion by experience?
No it’s by basic logical reasoning. If your kids can’t get good grades in a public school, what makes you think they can in a private school? Both teach the same things. Also it’s not like going to a private school will help them get higher SAT/ACT scores.
Good school district is deceiving. Majority of kids in wealthy areas are going to after school enrichment programs in the area. Also there are homeowners in good school districts sending their kids to private to avoid the competitive pressure in good school districts. #1 consistent success factor is still parental involvement and support.
All good school districts. Not sure if you can find a house at Saratoga with your budget.
Why?
Los Gatos
Are you buying house or townhomes or condos? You won't get a house in Saratoga or Cupertino for 2M.
Doesn't matter as we already have 2 SFH in San Diego which we do not plan to sell
No good options as others have said .. You cannot afford private school nor house given TC. If you could, private school is definitely a much better option.
Good luck you won't get a decent lot home in $2mil in these areas. Whatever you get, will feel like it's not worth it. Welcome to Bay Area
