Trying to be more efficient with my time. Do ya’ll code for hours straight or take breaks often?
Code until a coworker distracts you, then 30 minutes to context switch, rinse and repeat. Some days it's impossible to get anything done at all, so I have to claim other people's accomplishments.
>in the office 5 on/5 off >at home at 12 am code for hours straight, breaks when comcast dies
To put time labels is already a mistake. Keep going if you need to finalize a thought and then stop once you realize you’re making more mistakes than you should be. I decided one day to dig into a bug and I spent a good 4 hours. I decided to call it quits, wake up the next morning refreshed and figured out the issue in about 15 minutes.
Yea, I’m starting to feel that it kind of overcomplicates things
It depends on the task. If small/medium I stop when I finish. If large it depends on how much I enjoy it.
For me, it's like 6 days of doing nothing and 1 day of hyper-focus where I'm able to do a week's worth of work
For me, focus and flow go hand in hand. If I’m making decent progress in a session, I just keep it going until it feels like the right time to take a break. But I enjoy that break like how one continues to enjoy a good game even after the game. By reminiscing. It is relaxing. Then I jump back into a new session. Other times when I keep hitting brick walls every other step I gotta step back to figure out if it’s because of an immediately insurmountable problem or not. If immediately insurmountable, then I take a big break after making a rough plan for when and how I can make progress. But for the time being, I just head back to real life. Otherwise, I hack a temporary workaround adding in a marker and comment explaining the problem and why the solution needs to be improved. Then I move on to the next phase of the solution leaving a nice todo to be looked at after the overall problem has been solved.
Dont forget to poop y’all

Where's the 10 on 50 off. Just because you're a good engineer doesn't mean you're an efficient engineer. I'm super distracted most of the day but when I work I get a lot done so no one notices/cares
