I gave resignation to my current employer Company 1 on Friday. They came up with a counter offer today which is better than the company (Company 2) I am supposed to join. Also the new company (Company 2) has only 5% yearly growth while current one (Company 1) is growing 50% a year. But the thing is that I have another offer from a global company ( Company 3) where I really want to work but it will take 6 weeks for my Visa transfer. Now I am confused to what should I do. If my stay with my current employer ( Company 1) but resign 6 weeks later when my Visa is transferred in Company 3, it will be bad faith and can sour relationship with current employer ( Company 1) . And if I leave the current job but my Visa transfer doesnt go through for any reason with Company 3(Fingers Crossedđ¤), I will be in the new company (Company 2) where I have less prospects than current employer (Company 2). Current TC: 75K
If you were not working at both places and if you got the offer letters from both which company would you go with?
The one I am in right now. If the money was same.
Is the global company Microsoft?
Nah, Its EY. I wish it was Microsoft though.
Okay, asking because one of my friend's Visa also took 6 weeks
What I don't understand is why did you submit your resignation without receiving H1 approval from your new company??
I got H1B approval for Company 2.
Then why are you saying Visa transfer will take 6 weeks when it's already approved?
Thatâs why you should always ask for a raise before any sign of resignation
I did that only. After 3 weeks, I had not gotten the raise so I resigned as company 2 H1 approval came though.
Never accept a counter, itâs not worth it.
Why not ? It's better than Company 2. They want me here and opportunity for growth would also be better even if I stay here long term.
So why did it take them until you resign to recognize your value? Itâs BS, they canât afford to replace you right away thatâs why they throw money at you to reduce the impact. Donât be mistaken to think that they wonât try to replace you down the road since you didnât exactly show loyalty but thatâs just my 2c..
This is tricky. Looks like you've already made up your mind to move. I wouldn't suggest accepting counter offer. And as far as I know, It's not recommended to inform your current employer until your transfer is approved. Anyways, you can ask your new employer to file Visa transfer with premium processing. That should give you a result in a week. This way, you would know within your notice period of you would be able to join the new employer or not.
Do the above, meanwhile ask ur current employer for a 3-4 wk leave to think over it
The Company 3 (EY) won't file it till atleast mid next month. They will do premium processing. The company 2 I was going to join just for more money. After counter, I don't really want to go. Also, I can't take 3-4 weeks of leave. I have used up my PTOs and I don't want to take unpaid vacation
