I have offers from Amazon and Uber, both New York, both sde2. Currently sde2 at Microsoft, yoe 5.5. I work around 10 hours a week, feels like big fish in a small pond. Quite respected in my current team and love my manager. Current TC around 180k in Redmond, New TC 280K in New York. It's it worth switching? I don't care about dating life as I don't have any problem in dating here. Age:28. Points in considering in favour of move : New York, that city is the capital of the world and I love busy cities Better career growth at Uber? I started at level 58 in Microsoft, so I'm kinda behind in career trajectory. I am at level 61 right now. In my head, I should be nearing 63, which makes me feel I'm behind. More money (?). Not sure if 280k in New York is much more than 180k here. Points to stay at my current role : I have made many friends here. Wlb cannot get better Skiing resort is 30 mins, and I love skiing.
Can I ask your background that you're pulling 180 at 28 and 10hr weeks? Like how...
You should be fired. Sorry
My org subset comprises of 30 people. My org generates 120 million dollars per year just by direct b2b model. Now, dividing that money by 30,each person generates 4 million dollars. I get paid 200k. Which is 5% of what I'm generating. So if I work 5% of 40 hours per week, I'm breaking even, I'm generating more money for the company than the company pays me. I work 10 hours a week, which is 25% of 40 hours. So I'm not only breaking even, but generating much more money for the company than it gives me. I don't see a reason to fire someone who is making profit for you.
What matters more is that the person they replace you with will work ~40 hours and produce more for the same salary. And sde 2 replacements aren't that scarce
If you like Seattle weather and have friends/family then stay else leave. Personally I love NY so I would leave in a heartbeat
Maybe he wants 280K at 10hrs/day
You expect to be senior but work 10 hours a week...hmm...
I'll work more if they promote me to senior. At sde2, I am going to perform sde2 duties. Why should I work more than expected of my role? I know that working harder will get me promoted quickly, but I also know that yoe translates to level in tech. As long as I'm doing satisfactory, I'll get promoted. Ain't gonna sweat unless it's required to meet the bar.
To be promoted you need to be working at the next level and no, yoe does not translate to level. In fact, staying too long at certain levels does not look good. It gives the signal that you are resting and vesting which is what you are doing.
wdym 10 hrs a week? like you’re in office only 10 hrs? sheesh
Chase that cheddar young fool
Except you have to still hang out in an office about 30 additional hours. To each his own
DM' ed you
Why not state it here?
I would like to know as well
New York is pretty sweet, you'll have fun here
Is 10 hours a day considered great wlb nowadays? 😮
Oops, I meant 10 hours a week! Edited it.
Haha ok, you were scaring me there for a second
