Amazon Recruiters All Bark and no Bite? SDE2 Offer Deadline Looming

I have an offer from Amazon but I'm waiting for another company I interviewed at to wrap up their review process. I busted my ass getting through both interviews and I want to hear offers from both companies. Amazon gave me a hard deadline for the 27th before they withdraw their offer even after I told them I'm waiting for the other company to finish their review. Unless I get news today it's looking like the other company won't have finished in time.

A bird in hand may be worth two in the bush but I'm thinking how could they possibly withdraw an offer completely if I need another week to decide? I've gone my whole life without working at Amazon and they seem to be doing fine so how is another 7 days going to kill them?

Are they all bark and no bite? What do you think will happen if I stand firm on wanting to wait a bit longer?

Side note it'd be pretty unprofessional to give two weeks at this time of year anyway with the office all on holiday. My experience with Amazon recruiters so far has been they are very pushy and need to chill out a bit.

What's stopping you from reneging later?

Didn't consider it. So accept the offer but push out the start date to give the other company enough time to complete the review? Could that put me in any legal trouble?

Not in the US. We got rid of slavery a long time ago, so you can quit at any point.
If you start using any moving services though you'd have to pay those back

Your recruiter might be fired by January through URA if they don't hire you. (Ask them if they're in Focus or Pivot, and have any deadlines.)

If you think they should chill a little, that's basically a preview of what Amazon wants you to become once you join!

Yeah my recruiter told me I had to tell her by Christmas. I asked for more money if I were to drop my other interviews scheduled for Jan. The offer she sent was not even one cent higher. I immediately rejected. She then asked if she could reach out in Jan if the role is still open then. I told her I am unable to accept this role at this salary and looked forward to interviewing with them in the future (I was downlevelled).

That is interesting to hear. So you rejected and they asked to follow up. And this is Amazon? If so, it sounds like it is more bark than bite.

If you take the base + stock + bonus spread out over 4 years then it's $210/yr.
