Amazon pip/focus on visa - took backup low paying offer but now have better offer
Got slapped with a focus plan late last year. On an h1b.
1) Started interviewing and got a non-FAANG job. Base was higher by 6%, but TC was 30% lower + downlevel. For the fear of not getting anything else before I get pipped I accepted the offer. They did my visa transfer, it went through and I am starting in a few weeks. But had 1 or 2 more companies that I continued to interview with.
My manager eventually told me he’ll have to put me on pip so I asked for a pivot and I just left the f-ed up company.
2) But now I have a better offer. 12% lower TC than Amazon and base is 20% higher. Visa transfer takes at least 1.5-2 months even with premium processing because the legal company that files for the visa in this place has terrible reviews and is incredibly slow. And worst case visa may not go through/I’ll get an RFE or reject. I can only have 60 days of unemployment.
What should I do?
Option 1: Can I reject job 1 at this stage where they did the h1b transfer and expect me to start in a few weeks? If I do reject, there is a risk of the visa transfer for job 2 not going through before my unemployment days.
Option 2: If I decide to go ahead and start job 1, should I tell job 2 during background verification and the visa transfer process? Can I quit job 1 in less than a month to move to job 2? I feel terrible about it, but worse - will I always have to mention this in my background verification?
Sorry for the very long post. In a real soup, and at the end of it all, hate my Amazon manager for putting me through this. Hate the unethical stuff I’m having to do that will obviously burn bridges. #tech #layoff #amazonpip #pip #visa #h1b #backgroundcheck
