What’s the LC equivalent for infosec?

Feb 4 10 Comments

I know that many appsec or other infosec roles may require LC so in that case LC-for-infosec is still just LC. But are there any other reliable things that infosec pros can “grind” in order to level up? Sort of hit a wall trying to up TC/role and not sure what to focus on besides just joining everyone on LC-grind which is not really explicitly “security”.

I have plenty of certifications and an MS and those didn’t really move the needle much. #securityengineer #infosec #cybersecurity

Cheers!

If you’re looking at general security engineering roles, try the regex path on HackerRank.

What types of level ups your'e looking for? Besides TC?
Like management roles? Or going into a specific field? In my eyes your TC sounds amazing.

    • I have experience across just about all domains of infosec. Would be interested in pursuing whatever has highest ceiling before turning to mgmt track.

      Alright,
In my opinion Product security/Application security has the highest ceiling. From these roles its easy to become architect and product security lead. Usually the pay is same for sec engineers and developers.

If you ask me, I guess to really level up its less about technical knoweldge but more about taking large scale projects and finishing them from start to finish. (Like creating scaled security pipelines)

As others have indicated, it depends on the segment of security. For example, if it is application security or software security with emphasis on shift-left, I have had experience with two organizations that use secure code warrior (securecodewarrior.com): 30 mins to 1hr, you share your screen with them while you complete the challenges
