Why is it so hard to land data engineering roles I see many people struggling to get DE offers but see many people with no experience getting SDE offers.

People hardly leave de positions. Its the real rest and vest. No oncall, just create some report with wrong data and keep on correcting it forever.

Coupong - Lol. The point is that there are sooo many DE openings yet they are not being filled. It is not like ‘why aren’t there any DE openings’ for which your uninformed or sarcastic response would have been more appropriate.

DE do have on call, but most DE pipelines are less mission critical so you won't need to wake up 2 AM at night.

  • Supply and demand? There’s a billion MOOCs and boot camps for data scientists so it probably saturates the market more.

Good question and something i have seen and heard from my management as well. Probably because sql and data analysis (which is core to DE) is either not many people’s interests or forte. Plus, there is always some shiny new framework that is coming up and you have to stay abreast of those. A combination of those i guess.
