Just out of curiosity. Nvda stock price has been surging, and I am wondering if working in a hardware company or hardware engineers actually make more than flan.

let's see, i'm a non-engineer for a hardware company. pretty sure a nanny for a google employee out earns me.

    • Don't be harsh on yourself, comp considered HW engineers too are non-engineers to CS folks on this forum.

i mean, to be fair - i make enough to support myself, and my partner who makes far less (academia, science), and i don't feel like i need to make significantly more. sure i wish i didn't have student loans to still pay off, and that i wasn't paying for most of two full households (long distance), and that i felt a little more secure about retirement, but realistically i don't have a single friend outside of the tech industry that feels like retirement is ever going to be in reach anyway.

i grew up poorer than poor, and i don't live lavishly now, so it works out ok.

Nvidia is an outlier. Btw, They stopped giving stock to most employees (excluding ESpp) unless you're at a certain level.
