I heard that in Google, teams doesn't really exist, no code base common to single team and everyone will be working on independent things, reading papers and making changes in code base.

Actually not the teams code base, anyone can make changes in any service for their project.

It all sounds like a masters thesis/PhD :D#tech

Is that true? If so, that's cool. Can anyone care to explain?

Google has teams, but yes they have a monorepo for their codebase and engineers can submit code changes to other services outside their team.

How is code quality maintained if everyone works in their own style ?

    • There’s typically a common set of language standards folks follow. Also someone with the proper context on that part of the code base is still going to do code review for the diffs you put up so that should ensure quality as well to some degree.
