As title states, is it easy to transfer from MLE to SWE or vice versa?
asking because i have a potential MLE intern offer at Apple but my main goal was to work as a SWE.
Which is usually more prestigious? And which tends to give out higher compensation?
Also would changing from MLE to SWE be easy if i get a return offer?
Thanks!

At Meta I joined an ML team. It’s half SWE half Research Scientists but everyone does the same thing. Previously was pure SWE. I’m still junior so could be very wrong but I think it’s def easier to do MLE>SWE than SWE>MLE later on. Even within Meta, the technical caliber of my peers in this team is incredibly higher than SWE groups I was in. That said, it made me realize I really don’t enjoy MLE. I do quite enjoy $$$ though so I’m quite conflicted.
Also, I’m not sure how much this means but on SWE teams there were CS people and people who did bootcamps even. On this team, half of the people are MIT/CMU math/cs PhDs and were quants at top firms before.
Awesome answer :D
I was "buying" this pitch about doing what you love & not thinking about money but... didn't end well.
My yearly TC was 12k $ in eastern Europe 8 years ago, now it is 35k $ net and ... I should have always followed "love money".
All work is shit.
A wise man once told me: " if work was fun, then the money would flow in the opposite direction". It never is if you have a boss, so always follow high TC.
Companies collect tons of data, building models is easy, now it is time to monetize ml.
Next 10 years would be great. Ml esp DL become mainstream 2016, there is still lots of room
