Hi everyone, my dad recently was laid off from military contracting due to COVID. He is looking for an Executive level or Sr level position as PM or related area. I would refer him to Atlassian and they have great position for him but would be conflict of interest. He has more than 15 years of PM experience with military at US Special Operations command(SOCOM), working all the way up to presidential levels. Would appreciate direct ref to a recruiter if possible. He is also open to other companies in Austin, Texas. I can send his resume out as well. He has a background in Engineering from Wespoint and also further education at Harvard. Whether or not you agree with the military, lets band together and help out a man who has served his country, activy duty + retired(contract) for 30 + years. I also can provide his linkedin and resume for verification if needed. #career #referral #atlassian #google #amazon #facebook #amazon #veteran #vetsintech #tech #austin

I don’t think exec levels need referrals from Blind though.

You can still refer but you should disclose the family relationship I guess

It is not conflict of interest if you discole it to people concerned and don't sit on the interview panel and in no way impact hiring decision.
If you find any openings in WM that suits him, I will be happy to refer him. Good luck.

Thanks, I will look at that more. I spoke with a friend who is a manager on another team and advised I not do it for that reason. Sounds like I just have to be very detailed with all that upfront ?

Yes, disclose and be upfront. Only limitations probably all companies would have will likely be you both cannot have a reporting relationship at work and shouldn't be involved in making decisions that impact each other's promotions hike etc.
We hired a colleague's son for a different team at a company I worked for, my colleague was kept out of all the interviews and hiring decisions we made and it was informed to is beforehand candidate is related and we are to keep our discussion private. Only caveat from HR was they both never work in the same team or have any reporting relationship at any point of time.

  • You can refer but fully disclose to the company and the recruiter for the position in writing that you are referring your father.

The transparency will be appreciated by your employer and shield you from legal problems in the future.
