https://www.cnbc.com/2020/04/22/airbnb-hosts-getting-almost-nothing-from-250-million-relief-fund.html Among the few hosts who have received a payment from Airbnb is Thierry Rignol, who has about 80 Airbnb listings across Houston, Dallas, Denver, Seattle and Portland, Oregon. After Airbnb changed its cancellation policy, Rignol says he lost more than $30,500 through 50 reservation cancellations. "It was a bloodbath," Rignol said. #housing #mortgage #airbnb #landlordinvest
How is Airbnb even able to legally change the cancellation policy? It’s a contract agreed to between the host and the customer. They’re just asking to be sued.
Inst it crazy that guy has 80 houses on Airbnb. Is crazy that Airbnb is converting houses to hotels in an industrial scale but for PR they keep saying our hosts are teachers who are renting out their spare rooms. It's a huge scam and Airbnb should be regulated a lot more than they currently are
Finally someone gets it.
Not seeing the scam part. Can someone elaborate?
I wonder how he affords the 80 homes. And the breakdown to the types and tenants he provides services too.
Airbnb should only be legal for spare rooms in the primary residence of an owner. That's it.
You're right. In fact, most cities already have laws and restrictions against renting out a place if you are also not residing there. But if this host with 80 listings who is brazenly demanding relief is any indication, these restrictions are hard to enforce for municipal governments. This also goes to show how the typical host isn't someone who is trying to make ends meet, but an opportunist who operates hotels using residential property. Not too dissimilar from people who buy up all the TP in the grocery store.
Greedy bubble bursts one day and now is the time.
AirBnB super hosts are toast. Lots of them pay mortgages with AirBnB rents. Now they’re all struggling. Airhosts forum is depressing to read.
He overextended himself if he can't afford the properties during the good times and the bads he needs to start selling properties.
Airbnb needs serious regulation. Greedy Airbnb hosts buying up properties lead to property prices inflation making it increasingly difficult for common public just wanting to buy a house to live in. This is unacceptable.
I think the impact is more on rental markets. Whole house and apt rentals via AirBnB in popular tourist towns caused reduced rental supply and gentrifications. Renting out a room in your private residence is acceptable. I don’t understand why AirBnB hosts quality for the stimulus package? Let them pay the price for their greed.

How long has your job search been?
Not understanding why Airbnb would give any money to hosts? Is uber giving money to drivers too?
If you own a fleet of 80 cars, Uber probably should.
It’s probably written in the contract that hosts are entitled to the cancellation fees. Airbnb unilaterally broke that contract.
