Would appreciate any informed advice on which of the three companies people would recommend for Data Science / Analytics (at a fairly senior IC level), based on the priorities below (roughly in order): (1) Culture of learning new technical skills, respect + autonomy for DS, interesting work (2) Work / Life Balance (e.g. hours, flexibility, stress) (3) Compensation Thanks!!
No lnkd pays less compared to google
Google couldn't even get close to LinkedIn in terms of compensation.
LinkedIn or Google for compensation. Netflix claims they pay top $ but they don’t the pay basically market only. You’ll get no work life balance at Netflix. Finally culture, it’s always subjective.
Total BS.
@SIMh73: Could you elaborate a bit? Are you saying Netflix: (a) Does indeed pay substantially more than say Google or LinkedIn for DS? (b) Has good work-life balance? (c) Both (a) and (b)? Given you work there, would love to hear your thoughts. Thanks!
LinkedIn matches G / others when you get the offer. They screw you on refreshers and salary increases. If you have a high incoming, expect 2-3% base increase and no refreshers. Eventually, you’ll leave with a salary deficit.
Also, you’re switching from Facebook - you will see a massive drop in coworker quality and massive competency differences between teams + the politics. Oh god the politics.
@darker to your post below: Yes the politics...it’s BU to BU but looking at Blind and the screeds and squealing emanating from a couple of teams recently is horrifying really, extremely unprofessional too.
These companies are fairly big. How interesting the work is will depend very much on the team.
Good point, thanks. However, are there any general cultural trends that make one place better on average, along some of these dimensions?
On compensation, Netflix is known for the highest cash portion. Google on average pays higher than LinkedIn. Of companies that pay well, Google is generally the best option for WLB.
