Has anyone been hired (as a data analyst or data scientist) based on the knowledge gained through a bootcamp? or is the field saturated? Interested in a career switch. Also, which one is better in Udacity, Springboard and Coursera? #career #datascience #dataanalyst #dataengineer #dataengineerinterview #amazon #microsoft #google #facebook #salesforce
I had an acquaintance get hired after going through a bootcamp, they we're working as a supply chain analyst and made the jump to data scientist at a tiny logistics company before jumping to a larger company as a Jr data scientist. Single data point though. Is it a crowded field? Read http://veekaybee.github.io/2019/02/13/data-science-is-different/ On LinkedIn you can see the number of applicants for junior data scientist positions you are interested in. They often will get 100+ applicants within a few days, so you would need to differentiate yourself among the sea of applicants for the most desirable companies.
I have been hired coming out from a bootcamp. The opportunities are there just make sure you are putting in the time to build ur own projects and network with others. Knowing the hiring manager or just connecting with them is a good way to stand out. I’m a data analyst with no previous experience (came from higher ed student services)
Congratulations!!!!! What data camp did you finish?
Which DataCamp did you do? In Bay Area?
Most of the data scientists I’ve worked with have a PhD in data science/statistics or similar discipline. The two outliers, one with masters another with bachelors also have degrees in these discipline. Now I’m not saying you can’t get hired, but it’s hard to compete with a 12 weeks program when a lot of these people have published work. Data analyst on the other hand, is a very vague title. Some of them are just sql writers. It depends what you want out of a bootcamp.
