I work in Demand Planning and work with a lot of excel spreadsheet models, analytics, historic data, trends etc I am pretty good at it. I do not have any programming experience and do not know R, Python etc How can I move into the field of Data Science, is doing a couple of courses online good enough to crack interviews.
You need background in stats and basic machine learning methods. Should be expert sql and python pandas and numpy for sure
What’s your yoe like ?
12 total, 4 after Masters
I’m in the same boat as you are, I have about 8 yoe after Masters but of course I don’t work at Apple. the field of demand planning is changing take a look at job profiles for a planner at Walmart labs or Groupon it’s heavy on data science and ml side, I got an interview from Groupon all they asked was what ML algorithms do I use, what am I strong with Python or R etc and almost zero questions on demand planning experience itself

@op how did it go, what’s your trajectory now?
Definitely learn SQL if you dont already have proficiency. Either of Python or R (preferably Python) and some statistics.
I know intermediate SQL, in process of learning Python. Want to understand what level of proficiency is need to crack a FANG interview
High proficiency. If you can't whiteboard SQL and Python, you're not ready.
