Data engineer to software engineer
TC as de seems very low in Seattle. I have ~2.5 yoe at a top 50 manufacturer and GE. Currently working at Amazon for 105 base +15k so +12k second year + 30 rsu(5 year vest). I’m decent at leetcode and am basically a sde at work since I code in Scala, Java, and Python along with knowing all the stuff a de is supposed to know sql, etl, data warehousing, basics of machine learning in python, etl technologies and databases, etc. How can I switch to software engineering? Will FAANG recruiters approve my resume for se roles? Will I have to apply for se 1 or sde 1 positions? Thank you.
So, you've held three roles in 2.5 YoE? And want to jump again?
For significantly higher tc I’d move in a heartbeat lol. But I’m planning for the future in next 8-12 months.
U being early in your career is the best time to switch your career.... moving as sde1 should be okay..... it would look bad for us who have 10yoe .... Further talk to any sdm in Amazon and try to move internally first. Even if you fail at new role, you could get back to de. If you move to other company as SE and fail there, you will be shown doors. SE bar in faang would be high. So it's better to be careful

How's the WLB for DE at Amazon? For SDE's it doesn't seem good.
What did you end up doing OP? Did you transition into SWE? Im a DE trying to move into SWE internally. Do you have any tips?
DE at amazon sucks .Outside In a lot of places DE is a type of SDE.Just move on elsewhere.You can easily get 150k TC elsewhere

Pretty much everywhere except FAANG.Mainly smaller companies.At FAANG you have to be a SWE and the bar is high so choose wisely I guess .
