What core technologies do you use in your company for data science and who do you work for? Please be brief. Will post a compile in the end.

  • Non tech Fortune 500 companies are likely still on old services like teradata because it's too hard to migrate. And tech firms (google, facebook, amazon) are likely all on their own custom solutions

    • When you are a large business with a huge revenue stream, and data is not your core competency, the risk of migrating servers and data is just too high to be worth it.

      This is accurate. Sure there are some that are ahead of the curve, but non-tech, particularly in businesses that are protected from competition via some sort of monopoly, is a terrifying place to be from a tools/processes/culture standpoint. Just quit one after a few weeks myself.

    Depends on what you mean by core technologies. We are largely in Hadoop now. Most of DS uses Spark on Hadoop or stand alone. Python seems to be the language of preference lately.
